ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  This posting is to create a pool of qualified candidates, from which to hire from, as positions become available.  This position is part of the KEA bargaining unit.

 

ASSIGNMENT:  Developing and maintaining a system of care which will minimize the effect of sudden illness and injury in the school setting; providing orientation for volunteers and staff assisting in the health room; promoting measures which will protect students and others in accord with state and local health department regulations; assessing and evaluating the health and developmental status of pupils through nursing diagnosis and appropriate evaluative techniques to promote optimal learning; organizing health screening programs for vision, hearing, and scoliosis to meet state requirements; participating in planning educational services appropriate for pupils whose physical, mental, and behavioral deviations interfere with their learning; assisting students, parents, and school staff in obtaining factual information to enable them to make sound decisions relative to their health; and assisting in providing a safe and healthful school environment. The school nurse is a health educator and, as such, will be involved in classroom instructional activities.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position is part of the KEA bargaining unit.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.    Educational Staff Associate certification for School Nurse required and must be on file prior to beginning work.
2.    Bachelor of Science in nursing and licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Washington

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Experience in school nursing
  2. Proficiency in second language
  3. Ability to exhibit multicultural and ethnic understanding and sensitivity with the ability to communicate effectively with all cultural groups in the school community
  4. Experience working with a diverse student population and the specific school demographics
  5. Desired characteristics are: flexibility; ability to organize ideas, time and materials to accomplish goals; enthusiasm; ability to express ideas clearly and understand concepts being discussed; ability to learn new ideas and skills; ability and willingness to develop favorable relationships with students; and willingness to model behavior deemed appropriate by the school district and the community.
