ADD’L INFORMATION: This is a non-represented position with variable hours that may include the summer session. We will fill vacancies from this pool as they occur throughout the school year.
ASSIGNMENT:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduation or equivalent and graduate of accredited practical nurse program.
- Must maintain current license as a practical nurse.
- Must obtain regular training as required by Washington State for licensed practical nurses.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Two years experience with special needs individuals desirable.
- Knowledge of health care and medication and a variety of medical complications.
- General knowledge of handicapping conditions.
- Skill in providing physical care; lifting and positioning individuals properly and assessing health needs and requirements.
- Skill in working with health care equipment such as wheelchairs, feeding tubes, syringes, monitoring equipment, oxygen equipment and suction machines.
- Skill and experience in performing tracheostomy care.
- Skill in assessing emergency situations.
- Ability to deal with special needs individuals and their families in a warm and confident manner.
- Ability to remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to tolerate an environment that provides limited opportunities for interaction.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and parents.
- Experience working with a diverse student population and the specific school demographics
- Ability to exhibit multicultural and ethnic understanding and sensitivity with the ability to communicate effectively with all cultural groups in the school community.
- Ability to exercise sound independent judgment, including appropriate handling of confidential matters.
- Desired characteristics are: flexibility; ability to organize ideas, time and materials to accomplish goals; enthusiasm; ability to express ideas clearly and understand concepts being discussed; ability to learn new ideas and skills; ability and willingness to develop favorable relationships with students; and willingness to model behavior deemed appropriate by the school district and the community.
