Description

The Kent School District partners with Green River College and other community based organizations to ensure that students between 16 and 21 years of age, without a diploma, have a second plus chance at becoming college, career, and life ready. Students can earn 2 year degrees, high school diplomas, and college and industry certificates including a GED. iGrad, and Open Door school, offers flexible instructional scheduling and modalities, personalized learning plans, wraparound social/emotional supports, employment assistance, and other services at the main campus storefront in Kent East Hill Shopping plaza. All Green River College courses are offered at the Green River College Kent Station and Auburn campuses. School is open yearlong to eligible students who reside in WA at no cost for tuition and books.

 

ASSIGNMENT:  Teaching English/Language Arts to high school students; grades 9 -12.  This assignment may involve working with students individually, in small groups, or entire classes, or targeting students identified as below standard in tiered intervention classes. Also, this assignment may involve online learning, blended learning, and project based learning.
 
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position is part of the KEA bargaining unit. 
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  
  1. Valid Washington State certification with appropriate endorsements required and must be on file prior to beginning work

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  
  1. Major or minor in English
  2. ELL endorsement
  3. Able to work cooperatively with a team of teachers
  4. Demonstrated strong communication skills
  5. Must maintain positive learning environment and have ability to relate to all students, parents and colleagues
  6. Candidate should be knowledgeable of differing student learning styles and cooperative learning and teaching students of varying abilities
  7. Excellent management skills
  8. Willing to share professional skills with other staff members
  9. Excellent technology skills and can use and incorporate computers/technology into curriculum
  10. Strong background in curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  11. Experience working with high school students
  12. Ability to exhibit multicultural and ethnic understanding and sensitivity with the ability to communicate effectively with all cultural groups in the school community
  13. Experience working with a diverse student population and the specific school demographics
  14. The willingness or qualifications of an applicant to coach or supervise activities and/or sports in addition to his/her teaching responsibilities will be considered.
  15. Desired teacher characteristics are:  flexibility; ability to organize ideas, time and materials to accomplish goals; enthusiasm; ability to express ideas clearly and understand concepts being discussed; ability to learn new ideas and skills; ability and willingness to develop favorable relationships with students; knowledge of current approaches to teaching; and willingness to model behavior deemed appropriate by the school district and the community.
